Clothing in this category is designed to be worn in the world’s
hottest climates.

All clothing has in-built
sun protection to guard from damaging UV exposure – products rated Sunguard Total will offer complete
protection in all climates (in accordance with BS EN 13758-1:2002). Many
garments in this category will be made from fabrics with an open weave
and knit structure. These Airflow fabrics are extremely breathable and
will promote rapid evaporation – which provides a welcome cooling
effect. For situations where biting insects may be encountered, however,
garments made from tightly woven, insect-proof, fabrics will generally
be a better choice. Look out also for clothing which offers Heatguard
Dynamic Moisture Control – this treatment dramatically improves
the wicking properties and drying times of the fabric – both vital
in hot conditions.
Cold
Clothing in this category is specifically designed to offer protection
in cold climates.

of the world's mountain areas. We exclude, however, deep polar regions or very
high altitude mountains – Rohan do not specifically design clothing for
these extremely cold conditions. All garments included in this category are made
from
sophisticated, modern fabrics which are designed, for a given weight, to offer
the highest levels of insulation possible. Fabrics will also be fast-drying and
high-wicking. To help combat the effects of windchill, garments will generally
offer a high or total level of wind-resistance. Look out for our Coldguard symbol – this
will identify products specifically designed for cold conditions. The Coldguard
rating awarded to each product indicates which of the four levels of insulation
is offered.
Wet
In changeable or cold, wet conditions, waterproof outer garments are a necessity.
All Rohan waterproofs offer complete and total resistance to the ingress of water
or wind. They can be identified by our Waterguard rating – garments awarded
this rating are guaranteed to be 100% waterproof. The Rohan Standard exceeds
the British Standard (EN 20811) by at least four times. All Waterguard garments
also offer a very high level of breathability – to allow moisture vapour
(sweat) to escape. In cold or changeable wet conditions, this protective outer
or ‘shell’ layer is the essential first line of defence against discomfort,
hypothermia or even death. In wet – but very hot – conditions, the
benefits of a totally waterproof layer are less significant. In these conditions,
a very high level of breathability is the most important property of an outer
layer – garments which offer Windguard protection (with higher breathability)
will be a more appropriate choice.
Temperate
Temperate regions are those with a climate intermediate between tropical and
polar – this clearly includes most of the world. Clothing in this category
is designed, primarily, to be as versatile as possible. Changeable conditions
are likely to be encountered, so the most sensible approach is to think of clothing ‘systems’ made
up of adaptable, flexible ‘layers’ which may be added or removed
as conditions dictate. Choose ‘base layers’ with high-wicking, quick-drying
properties, ‘mid-layers’ which offer lightweight insulation and waterproof
and breathable ‘outer layers’.
